  1. From Don Lecker, Bert’s Lab Technician at GE:

    Dear Ann,
I want to thank you for sending me a link to the video. I have told you this before but I always felt so lucky to have worked with him. Your comment on how he treated everyone with respect is an understatement. I only ever heard him make a bad comment about anyone once. We were working on the coal project and there was an emissions technician on the project who drove everyone nuts. We were all communicating over an intercom system. At one point when this guy was being particularly annoying, your dad turned off the intercom and turned to me and said, “What the hell is he talking about.” I have to tell you, I never heard your dad say anything like that and I almost fell off my chair.
I knew a lot of the stuff in the video because we did spend a lot of time in his little room together. One week I really lucked out. While we would usually just run the single cylinder engine two or maybe three days a week, the one week we had to run it everyday. That happened to correspond with a week our local public television station was doing a nightly show on China between the 1940’s and the 1960’s. I got to talk to your dad every day about what I saw the night before, he was so interesting.
I tried to talk your dad into writing a book about his life but he wasn’t interested. That was just like your dad, he didn’t know how special he was. He did show me the three articles (for lack of a better word) that he had written about his life. I think a book would have been a bestseller. You might want to think about writing one.
Anyway, thank you again for remembering me.
    Love,
    Don
